WashingtonCare starts with names Ask what Washington permits

What are the key rules in Washington?

Start with the names on the offer. A clinic name alone leaves a lot unanswered. Ask who will treat you, what the medicine is, and who will fill the prescription.

The person, not just the business

Washington’s health department says it does not license ordinary clinics or doctors’ offices as facilities, as checked September 30, 2026.

Look up the named person who will handle your care.

What an online offer needs to answer

Washington law checked September 30, 2026 generally requires state permission for online care from someone in another state.

One exception is advice to your Washington health professional, who remains responsible for your care.

Another is a specialist’s opinion that does not include treating you.

A third is follow-up for someone already treated elsewhere who is in Washington for a visit.

The online-visit briefing below explains the limits on these cases. Ask which state permission covers your visit.

  • What is the health professional’s full name and professional title?
  • What Washington licence or other state permission covers this visit?
  • Which pharmacy will fill a prescription, if one is issued?

Washington law

A prescription is part of the route

As of September 30, 2026, Washington generally bars supplying prescription medicines without an order from an authorised prescriber.

A prescriber is a health professional allowed to order medicine.

Keep the checks separate

  1. Person

    Find the licence record.

  2. Medicine

Get its name. Ask whether the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved it or a pharmacy made it to order.

  3. Pharmacy

Check who fills and sends it.

Carry the names from one check to the next.
