What do the words on the paperwork mean?

A strange word can stop an otherwise simple conversation. Here are plain meanings to keep beside a licence search, medicine discussion or insurance call.

Plain meanings

Peptide
A few chemical pieces joined together, like beads in a short string. These pieces are called amino acids; longer strings form proteins.
Telehealth
Care given at a distance using live communication or information a health professional reviews later.
Compounded medicine
A pharmacist, doctor or registered compounding facility makes or mixes this preparation to order.
FDA approval
The Food and Drug Administration is the US government agency that reviews medicines for particular health needs. Medicines made to order lack its approval, as checked September 26, 2026.
Nonresident pharmacy
A pharmacy outside Washington. It generally needs a Washington licence to mail prescription medicines here, under rules checked September 30, 2026. The state Pharmacy Commission can make an exception for occasional shipments rather than regular deliveries.
Informed consent
Agreeing to care after its benefits and risks have been explained; Washington’s in-person standards also apply online, as of September 30, 2026.
Prior authorisation
Approval sought in advance so a medicine can be covered under the plan’s rules.
Formulary
The plan’s list of medicines eligible for coverage.

Use a word to ask a better question

If someone says “authorised”, ask what permission they mean. If someone says “covered”, ask what your own plan has agreed to pay.
